An i-spy quilt is typically made of novelty prints with little pictures to play a game of 'i-spy'. I love making i-spy quilts for baby gifts. They're gender neutral and (hopefully) provide entertainment for older siblings as well. I decided to try something different from my previous I-spy quilts.

The majority of I Spy quilts are made for young children who love to search and identify objects that might be a little hidden in the fabric. I Spy fabrics can include scenes from any topic a child is interested in, such as cars and trucks, dogs and cats, farm animals, insects, and more —the choices are endless.

I Spy Quilts are quilts made with pictorial or novelty quilting fabrics. The reason I am calling this particular "I Spy" quilt "In-Jeaneous" is because it utilizes recycled blue jeans and there are indoor activities to do with the quilt. I've compiled a list of games to play so it is sure to entertain both young and old for hours.

My daughter has been sleeping with hers, she loves all the girly fabric. (This is a mini version of this I Spy Quilt .) Each quilt has 30 squares of fabric, 2 of each kind for matching. Each square is 4×4 inches once sewn, (I used a 1/4 inch seam allowance, so I had 4 1/2 inch squares to start.) Some of the fabric is flannel and some cotton.

Each larger square had 2 big squares and 6 small squares inside of it. I sewed those 8 squares together into their pod. Some I Spy quilts have plain fabric between each square, but I liked the look of them all touching, jumbled together (make it tougher on those kiddos!) You can lay everything out to get a visual idea of your quilt:

It is called an I Spy Quilt because there is a collection of novelty prints that encourage kids to look for things or play "I Spy" with it. It is bright and colourful and fun. I made it a couple of years ago but I thought I'd share the pattern.
